$22,000 for your ebook?

There’s an exciting trend in publishing I caught on to this summer when I read this piece by Seth Godin about the new golden age of books. I realized that the way TED Talks revolutionized speeches and presentations from an hour down to 15-20 minutes, a new style of writing was doing the same thing for books.

 

There is no longer a need to produce books that are exclusively 200 or 300 pages. Now there is a home for “books expressed at their natural length.” Like the TED Talks of the publishing world, Kindle Singles, short books — just 5,000 to 30,000 words (about 20-120 pages), have been out for a couple years as a format but they seem to have hit the tipping point in the last 6 months.

Kindle Singles have now sold over 6,000,000 copies and authors of Kindle Singles are making real money — on average Kindle Singles authors make roughly $22,000, per book!

 

They get about 1,000 submissions a month and only a few are selected for publication. In our 13 Weeks to Published Program, The Author Incubator team works hand-in-hand with authors who want to write these short books and be selected for the Kindle Singles program. We have just submitted 10 books to this program as part of our publishing agreement with those authors.
